Molecular Biologist

Dr Brett Bolte

Consultant

Brett brings multidisciplinary experience across aquaculture, marine science, molecular biology and environmental monitoring, with a focus on applying scientific and evidence-based approaches to complex aquatic and industry challenges. His work spans environmental DNA (eDNA), molecular diagnostics, genomics/metabarcoding, aquatic microbiology, fish health and welfare, and the development of monitoring approaches for marine and freshwater environments.

His work has supported projects involving government, industry and research organisations. His experience includes experimental design and delivery, molecular method development, bioinformatics and data analysis, technical reporting, stakeholder engagement, and translating complex scientific information into practical outcomes.

Brett has also developed and delivered eDNA training to government agencies to support the adoption of molecular tools for environmental monitoring.

Brett has a strong background in aquaculture research, with particular expertise in the application of molecular and genomic tools to understand aquatic microbial communities, environmental interactions and animal health. His research has included the development of eDNA approaches, microbiome and metabarcoding studies, molecular diagnostics, and fish health and welfare research. He is a published author and has presented his research at several domestic and international scientific conferences.

Brett holds a Bachelor of Marine Science, Honours in Marine Biology and a PhD in Aquaculture.
