Economist with over 30 years of experience

Dan Fels

Consultant

Dan Fels is an agricultural economist and has over 30 years of experience, with over 15 years working in aquaculture and fisheries including Western Rock Lobster, the industry peak body for the commercial fishery in Western Australia. Work with Western Rock Lobster includes generating a maximum economic yield model that the fishery uses to help determine total allowable commercial catch, and a benchmarking program that allows fleet participants to compare their efficiency and profitability. Specific aquaculture experience includes managing commercial operations and research programs in Northern Australia for over 10 years, with roles at Seafarms and Lobster Harvest. Finance experience includes working in agricultural banking as the regional economist at Bankwest. Prior to this, Dan held research roles at the WA Department of Agriculture and the Centre for Legumes in Mediterranean Agriculture at UWA. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science from UWA, a Bachelor of Economics from UWA and a MA in Science and Technology Policy from Murdoch University.

With Blueshift, Dan has undertaken feasibility and commercial assessment studies including bioeconomic and financial modelling on a range of species in Australia and Asia. Dan has generated in-house carbon calculators for Blueshift that assist business owners to determine the carbon footprint of their businesses.
