Blueshift was engaged by RFF Australia to undertake a feasibility assessment of opportunities for aquaculture production utilising water accumulated in the mine pit at BHP’s closed Mount Goldsworthy mine, located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. This approach comprised three key stage. For Stage 1, Blueshift undertook a high-level Technical Feasibility Review of aquaculture opportunities from the utilisation of the mine pit water. To assess potential aquaculture systems and operations at Mount Goldsworthy, Blueshift developed three alternative farm water and salt balance models: brackish water, freshwater, and seawater. For Stage 2, Blueshift undertook a Regulatory Review for a range of aquaculture operations at Mount Goldsworthy including tenure and key operational permits. For Stage 3, Blueshift shortlisted several options from the Technical Review (and supported by the Regulatory Review) and undertook high-level commercial reviews of several of the best prospects for aquaculture (and including a combined aqua-horticultural production model).
